Is cancer genetic?

My grandmother and her sister both had cancer, and now my mother is worried she might get it too. Is cancer something that runs in families, like is it genetic? I'm trying to understand if there's a real risk for her.

Only about 5 to 10 percent of cases are actually hereditary. Most are due to environmental factors and aging, according to what I read.

It can be genetic. If you are worried, please consult an oncologist who can guide you on screening tests. Don't guess.

It is really scary to think our genes might carry this risk. I totally understand your fear, but knowing helps us prepare better.

Not always bro. In my family, no one had it, but my uncle still got diagnosed. It's mostly lifestyle and bad luck.

Some types can run in families. If you have a strong family history, getting genetic testing done is a practical way to stay ahead.
