Is caffeine bad for diabetics?

My brother has diabetes, and he's a big tea drinker. I keep telling him to cut down on caffeine, but he says it doesn't affect his sugar. Is caffeine bad for diabetics, or is it okay in moderation?

My dad has diabetes and he still drinks his morning chai everyday, just without sugar. I think as long as you dont go crazy with sweet cold coffees from cafes, it should be fine. But better to check with his doc once.

Caffeine itself can sometimes cause a temporary rise in blood sugar levels because of adrenaline. The bigger issue is the sugar and milk we add to it. Try drinking black coffee or tea without sugar, and always monitor your readings after.

It is so hard when you have to constantly overthink every single sip of tea or coffee you take. When I was diagnosed, I felt like all my small daily pleasures were taken away from me. It takes time to adjust, so please go easy on yourself while you figure out what works.

I have been managing type 2 diabetes for over fifteen years now. In my experience, one cup of sugar-free filter coffee in the morning doesn't harm, but drinking it late in the evening ruins sleep, which definitely spikes sugar the next day. Balance is the key!

I was actually reading up on this because my mother was recently diagnosed. Some studies say plain black coffee might improve insulin sensitivity over time, but other articles say it spikes blood sugar. It is so confusing, so we are just asking her diabetologist next week.
