Is bronchitis the same as asthma?

My neighbour's child has been diagnosed with bronchitis, and my own child often gets similar symptoms like coughing and wheezing. I'm trying to understand if bronchitis and asthma are essentially the same condition or if there are key differences.

I tried giving my son warm ginger and tulsi water thinking his chest tightness was just temporary bronchitis, but it turned out to be asthma. Home remedies help with the phlegm of bronchitis, but asthma requires proper doctor-prescribed inhalers. Please don't delay getting a checkup.

In my experience, when I had bronchitis, it cleared up with steam and some medication in two weeks. My friend who has asthma has to use inhalers constantly. They seem to be quite different things.

No, they are definitely not the same. I have chronic asthma and have had acute bronchitis twice; the treatments are totally different. Asthma needs long-term preventers, while bronchitis usually needs rest and cough management. Always consult a pulmonologist.

Don't rely on random internet definitions to decide if you have bronchitis or asthma. A doctor needs to listen to your lungs with a stethoscope to tell the difference. Go to a hospital and get a proper diagnosis.

Though both involve airway inflammation, they are different conditions and require distinct medical approaches. Self-diagnosing respiratory issues is risky. Please consult a specialist and get a spirometry test to know for sure.
