Is autoimmune hepatitis hereditary?

My mother recently got diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis, and we were discussing if it runs in families. Is autoimmune hepatitis a hereditary condition? I'm curious if my siblings and I should be getting tested.

My elders used to say all liver issues come from eating habits, but our doctor explained it is actually an autoimmune issue. While there is a genetic predisposition, it isn't directly hereditary like some other conditions. Always trust your doctor's word on this.

It is not strictly hereditary, but you can inherit genes that make you more likely to develop autoimmune conditions in general. My doctor told me that an environmental trigger like a virus or stress is usually what sets it off, so having the gene doesn't guarantee you will get it.

No, it's not directly hereditary. You don't just hand it down to your kids. It's a mix of genetic susceptibility and environmental triggers, so there is no need to panic about family inheritance.

Directly hereditary nahi hai, ho na. Bas thoda genes ka influence hota hai par har kisi ko nahi hota family mein. Hum log faltu mein darr jaate hain, doctor se baat karo toh dimaag shant hota hai.

I have been dealing with this for over ten years. None of my family members have it, so it is definitely not directly hereditary. Don't waste energy worrying about passing it on; just focus on managing your own lifestyle and medications.
