Is asthma hereditary disease?

My elder sister has asthma, and my mother often says it runs in our family. I wanted to confirm this. Is asthma a hereditary disease?

I totally get it, worrying about whether your kids will get it is really stressful. While there is a hereditary connection, it doesn't mean every child of an asthmatic parent will definitely develop it.

In my case, both my uncle and my mother have asthma, and I developed it in my early twenties too. It definitely seems to have a strong family connection in our household.

Yes, it runs in families, but there is no point worrying about genetics now. Focus on keeping your house clean, staying away from pollution, and taking your doctor's advice seriously.

It definitely has a genetic link, which is why we ask about family history during checkups. However, a lot depends on your environment too, so it's not purely a hereditary certainty.

I was actually reading about this online yesterday because my dad has it. Apparently, you inherit the susceptibility to allergies, which then can develop into asthma depending on pollution and dust levels.

Yes, there's a strong genetic component to it. I track my daily outdoor air quality index on my phone because even with hereditary risk, managing environmental triggers is key to staying symptom-free.
