Is asthma acute or chronic?

My cousin, a small child, keeps getting asthma attacks, especially during seasonal changes. My mother is worried if this is a permanent issue or something that comes and goes. Is asthma acute or chronic?

Honestly, it's a chronic thing. I've had it since childhood and it doesn't just go away. But the sudden breathing trouble or attacks you get sometimes are the acute phases, which you control with quick-relief inhalers.

It is actually a chronic condition, meaning it stays with you long-term. But the attacks themselves can be acute. Don't worry, with proper medication, you can live a very normal and comfortable life.

I recently had a major flare-up after a bad cold. My doctor explained that while the sudden attack was acute and needed urgent nebulization, the underlying asthma itself is chronic and needs daily preventive care. I am doing much better now after starting regular inhalers.

It is chronic, just like thyroid or blood pressure, which means it requires long-term monitoring. You should do regular follow-ups and lung function tests with your doc to adjust your dosage instead of ignoring it.

It is a chronic condition that stays in the background, though flare-ups can happen suddenly. Besides your regular medicines, keeping a clean, mucus-reducing diet with plenty of warm ginger tea and fresh fruits can really help manage the daily symptoms.
