Is asthma a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease?

My father has COPD, and his symptoms sound similar to what my asthmatic neighbour describes. Are asthma and COPD the same, or is asthma considered a type of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease?

No, asthma and COPD are two different chronic lung conditions, though they have similar breathing symptoms. For your safety, please get a proper diagnosis and lung function test from a qualified doctor to know exactly what you are dealing with.

I totally get it, medical terms can be so confusing and scary to read. Asthma is actually different from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), though both affect breathing. Please talk to a doctor who can explain this gently and guide you.

Bhai, asthma and COPD are separate diseases, they are not the same. If you are having hard times breathing, please do not wait at home. Go to a good hospital nearby and show yourself to a proper doctor.

No, they are distinct conditions. My relative had severe complications because they confused asthma with COPD and took wrong medications. Please see a specialist immediately to get a clear diagnosis and avoid self-medicating.

No, they are different. I recently went through a bad phase of breathing issues and my doctor explained that while asthma is reversible with inhalers, COPD is a different chronic condition. Get a spirometry test done through a pulmonologist to clear your doubts.
