Is arthrosis worse than arthritis?

A friend of mine mentioned that her mother has 'arthrosis' and it's supposedly more severe than just 'arthritis'. I'm a bit confused by the terms. Is arthrosis actually worse than arthritis, or are they similar?

Honestly, both sound like a nightmare when you're trying to sleep and your knees are throbbing. I don't think my joints care about the medical spelling, they just hurt!

It's like comparing Chole Bhature to Poori Alu—both are heavy but in different ways! One is wear and tear, the other is inflammation. Just get diagnosed so you know which villain you are fighting.

My father used to confuse these two. Arthrosis is mainly degenerative joint wear, whereas arthritis involves active inflammation. It is best to consult your doctor to understand which one is affecting you and how to manage it.

My doctor explained that arthrosis is actually a non-inflammatory degenerative joint disease, often called osteoarthritis. Arthritis is a broader term that includes inflammatory types like rheumatoid. One isn't necessarily 'worse', they just need different management.

Don't get confused by these big names. Whether it is arthrosis or arthritis, keeping your weight down and doing simple joint exercises daily is the best practical way to handle it.
