Is arthritis worse in the morning?

My father always says his arthritis is at its worst first thing in the morning. He has a lot of stiffness and pain when he wakes up. Is arthritis generally worse in the morning, or is it just him?

Yes, morning stiffness is very common. My father gets his treatment at Aster Medcity, and the doctors there clearly told us that morning stiffness lasting more than 30 minutes is a classic sign of inflammatory arthritis. You should consult a specialist to get a clear diagnosis.

I completely understand how terrifying it is to wake up and feel like your hands won't move properly. I used to cry thinking I was getting paralyzed, but it's just morning stiffness and it does get better once you start moving. Hang in there.

Haan na, subah uthte hi pure joints tight ho jaate hain. But thoda dhoop me baitho aur walk karo toh automatically normal lagne lagta hai.

From what I've been reading, inflammatory types of arthritis specifically cause severe morning stiffness because of the prolonged rest during sleep. It's quite a common pattern.

Yes, it is definitely worse in the morning. Taking a warm water shower right after waking up helps a lot with the stiffness.

Yes, because the body has been still all night. Doing very gentle finger and joint rotations while still in bed, followed by deep breathing, can help smooth out the morning stiffness beautifully.

Yes, my fingers feel so heavy and stiff every single morning now. Does anyone else feel like it takes forever just to hold a toothbrush in the morning?

Yes, morning stiffness is quite common. Since I manage chronic symptoms myself, I would suggest not pushing your body too hard first thing in the morning; just let it loosen up naturally.

I totally get it, waking up with stiff joints makes starting the day feel like such an uphill battle. Just take your time in the morning and let your body warm up slowly.

Waking up in my 40s feels like operating a vintage car—everything creaks and needs 20 minutes to warm up! Yes, the morning stiffness is very real.

Yeah, mornings are the absolute worst. My joints feel like they are rusted or something until I take a hot shower and grab my morning coffee.

Yes, morning stiffness can delay your routine. I suggest preparing your clothes and bags the night before so you don't have to rush while your joints are warming up.

In our older days, we always noticed stiffness is worst in the morning. Gently rubbing warm sesame oil on the joints before sleeping can reduce this morning trouble to some extent.

Oh, absolutely! Getting out of bed to go get fresh hot jalebis in the morning is a real struggle when my knees are acting up. But once I walk a bit, the pain gets much better.

Yes, it is often worse in the morning. Since I manage diabetes too, I have to be careful not to take sugary morning teas to 'feel better' as sugar can increase inflammation. Stick to warm water or green tea.
