Is a mental health counselor a therapist?

My friend suggested I talk to someone about my stress at work, and mentioned a mental health counselor. Is that the same as a therapist, or are they different? I'm trying to figure out who to approach.

Yes, generally, a mental health counselor is considered a type of therapist. Just like with thyroid, where you need a specialist, in mental health too, various types of professionals exist. Counselors work with you on specific issues, and regular sessions can be very helpful. Always ensure they are licensed and qualified.

Oh, I was confused about the difference. So, a counselor is like a therapist who helps you discuss things? Are there different kinds of therapists then, or is it mostly the same?

After trying so many things for my mental well-being, I realized that sometimes you need professional help. Yes, a mental health counselor is a therapist. They provide therapy, helping you talk through your problems and find practical solutions. It’s a good step for anyone needing support.

Haan bhai, it's like a square is a rectangle, but a rectangle isn't always a square. A mental health counselor *is* a type of therapist, typically with specific training to help with emotional and psychological issues. Not all therapists are called counselors, but counselors definitely do therapy work. It's confusing, I know, my brain hurts sometimes too! 😂
