Is a domestic partner considered a dependent for health insurance?

My girlfriend and I are considering a health insurance plan. We're not married yet, but have been living together for years. I want to add her to my plan. Is a domestic partner considered a dependent for health insurance in India?

I don't know much about insurance rules, but I was wondering if we can buy a family floater together if we are not married? Or is it only for husband and wife in India?

Having faced massive medical bills during a health emergency before, I highly recommend having solid coverage. Usually, public plans don't cover domestic partners, so don't take a risk. Talk to a verified insurance advisor to find a policy that works legally.

From a practical family point of view, it is best not to rely on loose definitions. Most standard Indian insurances require legal marriage documents for dependent status. It is much safer to buy an individual policy for your partner to ensure peace of mind.

I once delayed getting proper insurance and faced a huge financial blow when a sudden medical emergency hit. Don't wait around trying to figure out if your partner is covered under your plan. If they aren't, buy them an individual plan today without delay.

Securing health coverage is a beautiful way of taking care of your loved ones. Since standard policies usually only allow legally married couples, getting individual plans is the most peaceful and hassle-free path to take.

To save yourself time and future claim rejections, know that standard retail plans in India do not recognize domestic partners as dependents. However, top-tier corporate policies underwritten by progressive MNCs do cover them. Check your company's HR policy document directly.
