Is a 5 mm kidney stone big?

My husband has been having a lot of discomfort, and his doctor just told him he has a 5 mm kidney stone. We don't know much about this. Is a 5 mm kidney stone big and difficult to pass?

Haan, 5mm thoda sa borderline size hai, matlab na toh bohot bada hai aur na chota. Bas paani peene mein kanjoosi mat karna, din mein kam se kam 3-4 litre paani piyo toh nikal jayega.

5mm sounds tiny until it is inside your urinary tract screaming for attention. I've been up all night reading about this, so just trust me and drink your water so you don't lose sleep like me.

A 5mm stone can sometimes get stuck in the urinary tract, so it is best to get it evaluated by a doctor. Please do not self-treat and get a proper ultrasound done to see its exact position.

I have had a couple of 5mm stones in my life, and they always passed with just plenty of fluids and time. Don't worry too much, our bodies are strong. Just stay active and keep drinking water.

Drinking fresh barley water daily is a great home remedy to help flush out a 5mm stone. However, if you experience sudden severe back pain, blood in urine, or vomiting, go to a doctor immediately.

A 5mm stone is right at the threshold where it can either pass naturally or require minor medical intervention. The best approach is to consult a urologist who can assess if you need medication to help it pass safely.

A 5mm stone is manageable. If your doctor allows, keep up with brisk walking and light jogging, as physical movement can actually help gravity push the stone down the tract. Just keep hydrating during your workouts.
