How was diabetes treated before insulin?
My father has had diabetes for many years and depends on insulin. It got me thinking, how did people manage this condition before insulin was discovered? It must have been so difficult.

Oh my god, thinking about medical history makes me so anxious because they had so few options back then! Before insulin was discovered in 1921, people were put on extremely strict, low-calorie diets, almost like starvation diets. We are so incredibly lucky to have modern medicine today.
It was a very difficult time, honestly. Before 1921, doctors could only advise a highly restrictive diet to prolong life for a short period. Thankfully, you don't have to worry about those dark days anymore as modern treatments are highly advanced and easily accessible.
Actually yaar, before insulin it was crazy. People were put on these super extreme diets with almost zero carbs just to keep them alive for a bit longer. It sounds so scary, thank god we live in the 21st century now!
In ancient times, before modern insulin, our ancestors relied heavily on dietary control, active physical labor, and specific yoga asanas to keep the body in balance. While insulin is a lifesaver today, keeping your body active and eating wholesome food remains equally important.
Before insulin, diabetes was sadly a fatal condition because they had no way to regulate blood sugar. I faced severe diabetic neuropathy because I neglected my dosage early on. Please never try to manage your sugar levels without proper guidance from an endocrinologist.
I was reading about this in a history book recently. It seems they used highly restricted diets to manage sugar levels before 1921. My grandfather managed his diabetes for decades, but of course, he had the benefit of modern insulin and tablets.
I am quite new to learning about diabetes since my father was recently diagnosed. It sounds so tough that they didn't have insulin back then. Does anyone know if herbal remedies from those old days are still useful today along with regular medicine?
