How to wear a bonnet to sleep?

My hair gets super frizzy and tangled when I sleep, and I'm looking for ways to protect it. My friend suggested wearing a bonnet. How exactly should I wear a bonnet to sleep so it stays on and protects my hair properly?

While wearing a satin bonnet is excellent for preventing hair friction, make sure it is not too tight around your forehead. A tight elastic band can cut off circulation and cause tension headaches or scalp irritation over time. If you notice any hair thinning near your hairline, check with a dermatologist.

My trichologist actually recommended wearing a silk bonnet to sleep to reduce hair breakage and retain natural scalp oils. She advised making sure the hair is completely dry before putting it in, as trapping moisture inside can cause fungal infections or dandruff. I just gather my hair into a loose bun and slide the bonnet on.

I have been wrapping my hair in a soft silk scarf or bonnet for decades to keep my curls intact overnight. It is very simple: just flip your hair forward, tuck it gently into the bonnet, and pull it over your ears. It keeps the hair moisturized and saves you so much styling time in the morning.

I started wearing a silk bonnet to protect my long hair and reduce split ends. For me, the easiest way is to tie my hair in a loose pineapple bun on top of my head and then pull the bonnet over. It stays secure all night and prevents my hair from getting tangled while I toss and turn.

Oh, wearing a bonnet can feel super weird at first and it might even slip off during the night, but don't stress too much about it! Just gather your hair loosely—no tight hair ties—and tuck it in from the back to the front. You'll get the hang of it in a couple of days, and your hair will thank you.
