How to treat yellow dandruff?

For a few months now, I've noticed my dandruff is yellowish and my scalp feels quite oily. Regular shampoos don't seem to be helping much. Any suggestions for what might work for this kind of dandruff?

Yellow dandruff usually points to seborrheic dermatitis, which is a bit different from regular dry dandruff. You'll likely need an antifungal shampoo containing ingredients like ketoconazole or selenium sulfide. Use it a few times a week, leaving it on for 5-10 mins. If it's persistent, a dermatologist can prescribe a stronger medicated lotion.

Oh, yellow dandruff! My son had this problem years ago when he was younger. It looked quite irritating. We tried some special medicated shampoos the doctor gave, and it helped. Keep your hair and scalp clean, and try not to scratch too much. It gets better with proper care, don't worry.

My dermatologist explained that yellow, oily dandruff is characteristic of seborrheic dermatitis, often caused by an overgrowth of a yeast called Malassezia. Treatment usually involves medicated shampoos with active ingredients like ketoconazole, zinc pyrithione, or salicylic acid. For severe cases, topical steroid lotions might be prescribed. Consistency with treatment and scalp hygiene is key.

Yellow dandruff? I've only heard of white flaky kind. Is yellow dandruff more serious or different? What causes it to be yellow?
