How to treat scalp psoriasis with coconut oil?

My hair stylist suggested using coconut oil for my scalp psoriasis, which has been flaring up recently. It's really itchy and red. Does anyone know how to properly use it for this condition?

I use pure virgin coconut oil on my scalp and it works wonders to soften the dry patches. I just warm up a little bit of oil, apply it gently with a cotton ball, and leave it on for about an hour before washing. It makes combing out the softened flakes so much easier without hurting the skin.

I don't know the medical science behind it, but coconut oil is the only thing that kept my scalp from cracking and bleeding during winters. I just massaged it in very lightly before sleeping and washed it off the next morning. It really helped with the itchiness, though I still had to use my doctor's lotion.

Coconut oil is excellent for scaling, but don't expect it to cure the psoriasis itself since it's an internal issue. The best way is to apply warm oil to soften the thick plaques, then use a fine-tooth comb very gently to lift them before showering. Pair this with your doctor's topical steroid drops for actual control.

Along with applying coconut oil externally to keep the scalp moisturized, focus on what you eat to manage inflammation. I find that a clean, plant-based diet with plenty of seeds, nuts, and green vegetables really supports skin health. Avoid processed foods, as they can sometimes trigger psoriasis flares.

Beta, our elders always used pure coconut oil for any skin dryness. Just apply it lightly on your head, leave it for some time, and wash it with lukewarm water. Do not use very hot water as it dries the skin more. God bless you, you will get relief soon.

I literally love coconut oil because it smells like fresh south Indian food! Applying it on my itchy scalp really helps calm down the irritation. It's much better than those expensive, chemical-heavy hair masks, plus it gives you a good excuse to eat some hot coconut-chutney idlis while you wait to wash it off!

While coconut oil is great for dry skin, scalp issues can sometimes be linked to internal hormonal changes or thyroid imbalances. I always recommend getting a full health checkup and regular blood tests done. Keep consulting your dermatologist to see if you need specialized medical shampoos alongside home oils.

I was just reading online about natural ways to manage scalp dryness and saw coconut oil mentioned everywhere. Is it really effective for thick psoriasis scales, or does it just make the hair super greasy? I'd love to know how long you guys usually leave it on before washing.

I have tried everything from neem paste to apple cider vinegar, but simple coconut oil is the most practical for dry scales. Don't rub it in aggressively, just apply it gently so you don't trigger more inflammation. Wash it off with a mild, doctor-prescribed shampoo so your scalp doesn't get too greasy and clog the pores.

Welcome to the group! Yes, coconut oil is a very safe and time-tested way to soothe the dryness and burning of scalp psoriasis. Just make sure you are using pure, unrefined oil without any added artificial perfumes. Apply it gently twice a week, and always remember to consult a skin specialist for a proper treatment plan.
