How to treat feline dandruff?

My cat, Simba, has been shedding a lot and I've noticed dry, flaky skin, almost like dandruff, especially when I pet him. Is this common for cats, and what can I do to treat feline dandruff?

Hey, don't worry, feline dandruff is actually very common and usually easy to manage. Most of the time it is just dry skin from a lack of moisture in their diet or dry weather. Try brushing them daily to distribute their natural skin oils and see if that helps.

My cat has started getting flakes near the base of her tail and I am so worried if it is a skin infection or a food allergy. Has anyone else experienced this with their cats? I am thinking of taking her to the vet this weekend just to be safe.

Haan, skin dryness is quite common in indoor cats na. Aap unke khane mein thoda omega fatty acid supplements add karke dekho, vet se pooch kar. Bathing them with normal soaps is a big no-no.

Haan na, cats getting dandruff is so annoying to see on their beautiful fur. We started grooming our cat with a damp microfiber cloth instead of bathing her too often, as bathing dries out their skin. It works really well, try it.

I totally relate to this, my Persian kitty gets dry skin whenever we keep the AC on for too long. Adding a humidifer to the room and brushing her daily really helped clear up the flakes. Make sure you are also feeding them wet food for hydration.

My cat had those tiny white flakes all over his back last winter. I just added a few drops of salmon oil to his wet food as suggested by a friend, and his coat became super shiny and flake-free in a couple of weeks.
