How to treat eczema on lips?

My lips have become very dry, chapped, and have little red bumps, almost like eczema. It's painful to eat or even smile. What can I do to treat eczema on my lips?

I know how stressful and painful it is to have peeling, burning lips when you are trying to talk or eat. Please try not to lick your lips as saliva actually dries them out more. Stick to a basic, fragrance-free lip balm for now.

Please don't trust internet remedies like scrubbing your lips with sugar or honey during a flare-up. It will only tear the delicate skin and cause painful infections. Get a dermatologist to prescribe a safe, medical lip ointment.

My lips have been constantly red, swollen, and peeling for a week and regular chapsticks are just burning. Has anyone else experienced this kind of eczema on their lips? I'm so worried it will leave permanent marks.

When I went to my doctor at Max Hospital for lip peeling, they told me that many commercial lip balms contain fragrance and menthol which actually trigger eczema. Ask your doctor clearly for a pure white petrolatum-based ointment.

In our family, we apply a little fresh home-made ghee on dry, chapped lips to keep them soft. It is very safe and natural, but please make sure it is pure. If the swelling and pain do not go down, you must see a doctor.
