I am looking for some advice for my grandfather who has very dry skin on his feet due to diabetes. Is it okay to use a foot scrubber to remove the dead skin, or can that cause cuts and wounds? I am a bit scared to try anything.

To keep your feet healthy, improving blood circulation is absolutely key. Do simple foot exercises like ankle rotations and calf raises while sitting at your desk. Combined with a clean, low-sugar diet, this helps maintain nerve health and prevents that constant numbness.

I have been managing diabetic neuropathy for ten years now. Always buy shoes in the evening when your feet are slightly larger, and make sure they have a wide toe box so there is no rubbing. Never use hot water bags on your feet because you might not feel the heat and could end up with severe burns.

My uncle has this and the main thing is he stopped walking barefoot even inside the house. He bought these super soft, padded diabetic slippers to wear at home. It basically protects his feet from hitting any furniture or stepping on sharp dust particles.

Think of your feet as high-maintenance luxury cars now! No off-roading barefoot, they need daily washing, polishing with a good moisturizer, and premium padded socks. Keep them pampered and they won't give you any engine trouble!

Oh, please be extremely careful with diabetic feet! Even a tiny scratch or blister can take months to heal and can turn into a serious ulcer if not noticed. Please check his feet daily with a small mirror under his soles and make sure there are no red spots or minor cuts.

I recently had a minor diabetic foot wound that took almost six weeks of dressing to heal. My doctor strictly told me to never cut my toenails with a blade and always use a proper clipper, cutting straight across. If you see any swelling or pus, go to a wound care specialist immediately.

Don't get scared by all the serious things you read online; with proper daily care, you can prevent any major foot issues. Just make a habit of wearing clean cotton socks without tight elastic bands that can cut off circulation. Take it step by step and keep his sugar levels under tight control.

If your doctor has cleared you for exercise, try to go for light walks in comfortable, well-fitting sports shoes. Walking helps stimulate blood flow to the lower limbs, which is excellent for nerve health, but always inspect your feet carefully once you get back home.

The most basic rule is to wash the feet daily with lukewarm water and mild soap, and dry them very carefully, especially between the toes. Moisture left between the toes can cause fungal infections, so keep them dry and apply moisturizer only on the top and bottom of the feet.
