How to treat diabetes insipidus?

My brother was recently diagnosed with diabetes insipidus, and we're trying to understand more about it. He's always feeling thirsty and going to the washroom a lot. What treatment options are typically available for this type of diabetes?

Please get this checked by an endocrinologist immediately. I ignored my extreme thirst and constant urination for months, thinking it was just because of the hot summer, and ended up severely dehydrated with kidney strain. Diabetes insipidus is totally different from regular diabetes and needs proper hormone tests.

Actually, diabetes insipidus is quite rare, yaar, and has nothing to do with sugar. It's related to some vasopressin hormone issue. You definitely need to see a specialist who can prescribe the right nasal spray or tablets to manage the water balance.

Yes, this condition needs specialized medical treatment, usually with synthetic hormones. Please do not rely on home remedies for this.

While you work with your doctor on the hormone treatment, make sure you don't overexert yourself with heavy workouts. Stick to light walks only if your physician permits, as your body's hydration levels are very sensitive with this condition.

In my years on this forum, I have seen that people often confuse this with mellitus (sugar diabetes). For diabetes insipidus, doctors usually prescribe desmopressin to control the extreme urination. Keep clean drinking water close to you at all times so you never get dehydrated.

Go to a tertiary care hospital and consult a senior endocrinologist. They will perform a water deprivation test to confirm the type of diabetes insipidus you have. Make sure you clear all your doubts about fluid intake limits with them directly.

With the amount of water you have to drink for this, you should probably rent a house right next to the washroom! But seriously, once the doc gives you the right desmopressin dose, the endless bathroom trips will finally stop.
