How to treat dandruff in kids?

My 8-year-old son has developed a lot of dandruff, and his scalp is quite itchy. We don't want to use harsh chemicals on his hair. What are some gentle yet effective ways to treat dandruff in kids?

Honestly, with kids, we have to be super gentle. I tried a light mix of extra virgin coconut oil with just two drops of lemon juice for my daughter, and it worked wonders. Just keep it on for 15 minutes before their bath, don't leave it overnight as it can catch a cold.

Sometimes we only look at the scalp but forget what we are feeding them. When my sugar levels act up, my skin gets very dry and flaky, so I know how food affects our body. Make sure they are not eating too many sugary chocolates and bakery items, keep their diet clean and hydrated.

Instead of buying expensive medicated shampoos right away, try basic home oiling first. If it doesn't go away in two weeks, then book a basic skin specialist consult which usually costs around 500 rupees. No need to spend thousands on high-end kids' brands without a doctor's prescription.

Please don't delay if the scalp looks very red or if they are scratching constantly. I ignored my son's flaky scalp thinking it's just normal dirt, but it turned into a nasty fungal infection that took months to cure with heavy medicine. Better to consult a pediatric dermatologist early and get the right lotion.

Look, stop overcomplicating this with ten different oils and packs. Just get a mild baby anti-dandruff shampoo from the chemist and wash their hair twice a week. Keep their personal comb separate and wash it daily, simple as that.

Keep your mind peaceful and don't stress too much, children catch our anxious energy very quickly. Just wash their hair regularly with clean water and a mild, natural baby shampoo. Take care, let nature heal it slowly with proper hygiene and a calm routine.
