How to test for diabetes at home?

My mother is diabetic, and I've been experiencing increased thirst and frequent urination. I want to check my sugar levels. Are there any simple ways to test for diabetes at home without going to the lab every time?

Honestly, the best home test for diabetes is if your wife starts telling you to stop eating mithai. Just kidding! On a serious note, a glucometer is what people use. But it's really just for monitoring if you already know you have it or are pre-diabetic. Not for diagnosing.

I was also wondering about this. I've seen those small kits online but wasn't sure if they are accurate enough for a proper diagnosis. It seems like for a proper check, you still need to visit a lab, right? Like HBA1C and fasting blood sugar tests.

Oh, I totally get why you'd ask this. I always worry about these things. While glucometers give you a reading, they aren't diagnostic for actually finding out IF you have diabetes. For that, you really need proper lab tests. Please don't rely only on home tests for a diagnosis, it can be misleading.

Yes, a glucometer shows current sugar levels, but for diagnosis, proper lab tests are essential. See a doctor.

Haan, see, for proper diagnosis, no home test will cut it. You need a fasting blood sugar test and an HbA1c test from a proper lab. A glucometer can tell you your sugar at that moment, which is good for people already diagnosed to keep track, but for first-time checking, lab hi best hai.
