How to test for asthma?

I've been experiencing a persistent cough and shortness of breath, especially at night. My cousin has asthma, and I'm worried I might have it too. How do they test for asthma?

Honestly, I wouldn't try to test it myself or rely on internet advice. My cousin had breathing issues and her doctor did some lung function tests. It's best to see a specialist for a proper diagnosis.

Haan bhai, asthma ke liye toh doctor hi test karte hain. Main toh bas itna janta hoon ki spirometry test hota hai jismein ek machine mein phoonk maarni hoti hai. Ghar pe na koi self-test hota hai uske liye.

The most reliable way to test for asthma is through a doctor, usually a pulmonologist. They perform lung function tests like spirometry. Any symptoms like persistent coughing, wheezing, or shortness of breath should definitely be checked by a medical professional.

For something like asthma, it's really important to get a professional diagnosis. Don't try to guess or use home remedies. Just like with my diabetes, proper testing by a doctor is the only way to confirm and manage it correctly.

You'd generally need to see a pulmonologist. They often do something called a spirometry test, which measures how much air you can breathe out and how fast. Sometimes they might also do a methacholine challenge or allergy tests to see triggers.
