How to tell the difference between indigestion and heart attack?

Sometimes after a heavy meal, I get a chest discomfort and feel a bit uneasy. My family says it's just indigestion, but with all the talk about heart attacks, it makes me worry. How can I really tell if it's just indigestion or something more critical?

Hey, don't worry too much, but it's important to know the difference. Indigestion usually feels like a burning sensation or discomfort in your upper stomach or chest. A heart attack, on the other hand, often involves crushing chest pain that might spread to your arm, neck, or jaw, and you might feel short of breath or lightheaded. If it's really severe or you feel anxious, please just go to the doctor, okay?

Look, if you're ever confused, just go to the hospital. Seriously. Indigestion pain is usually manageable and might get better with antacids. Heart attack pain is more intense, feels like pressure, and doesn't go away easily. Don't play doctor with your heart.

My doctor explained it really well once. He said indigestion often comes with burping or a sour taste, and the pain is usually above your belly button. Heart attack pain can feel like squeezing or fullness in the chest, and sometimes you get cold sweats or dizziness. The key is if the pain is severe, new, or accompanied by other symptoms like shortness of breath, just rush to emergency.

My mother always said to listen to your body, and if there's any doubt, especially with chest pain, don't take chances. Indigestion can be uncomfortable, but if it feels like a heavy weight, like an elephant sitting on your chest, or if you sweat a lot, then it's always best to see a doctor immediately. Don't delay.

I heard this from my trainer actually, he said if you can walk around or change position and the pain gets better, it's more likely indigestion. Heart attack pain often doesn't improve with movement and can actually get worse with exertion. But honestly, if you feel anything serious, always get it checked by a doc first, don't self-diagnose.
