How to tell ringworm from eczema?

I have this circular red patch on my skin that's itchy, and it seems to be spreading. My mother thinks it might be ringworm, but I've had eczema before too. How can I tell the difference between ringworm and eczema?

I totally get it, skin conditions can be so confusing and frustrating! Ringworm typically has a very distinct, raised, red, and scaly border that forms a ring shape, and the center might be clearer. Eczema, on the other hand, is usually more patchy, intensely itchy, and can appear anywhere, often with dry, red, inflamed skin. The ring shape is key for ringworm.

Oh, this is something I'm always worried about! Sometimes my skin gets patchy and red, and I always wonder. Does ringworm always have a perfectly round shape? And is eczema always super dry? I feel like sometimes the symptoms overlap and it's hard to tell without a doctor.

I totally get how anxiety-inducing skin problems can be! It's so hard to know what's what. From what my doctor told me, ringworm is a fungal infection, so it usually has that characteristic red, raised, scaly ring. Eczema is an inflammatory condition, so it presents as very dry, red, itchy patches that can be anywhere and don't necessarily have a ring shape. Still, best to get it checked, for peace of mind.

Okay, so like, ringworm actually looks like a ring, ya know? It's red and scaly on the edges and often clears up in the middle. Eczema is more like just dry, super itchy, red patches that can be anywhere. It doesn't have that specific ring shape. My friend had ringworm and it was super obvious because of the ring!

Observe your body gently. Ringworm often appears as a clear, circular lesion with raised, scaly edges, while the center may be less affected. Eczema tends to be more erratic in shape, with intense itching, redness, and very dry, sometimes cracked skin. Both need proper care, but one is fungal and the other is inflammatory. Listening to the skin's patterns can guide you.

Man, skin issues are the worst for your confidence, I've been there. The main difference I learned is that ringworm often looks like a literal red, scaly ring, sometimes with clear skin in the middle, and it spreads. Eczema is more irregular, very itchy, and the skin can be really dry and inflamed. Don't hesitate to see a skin specialist, it helped me a lot.
