How to tell kidney pain from back pain?

I've been having this pain in my lower back, and sometimes it goes towards my sides. My neighbour said it could be kidney pain, not just regular back pain. How can I tell the difference between kidney pain and normal backache?

Oh, I literally just went through this! My kidney pain was sharp, under my ribs in my back, and it radiated down towards my groin. Back pain usually felt more muscular and diffused. Also, my kidney pain came with fever and nausea, which back pain rarely does for me.

Honestly, if it's kidney pain, it usually feels deeper and more intense than typical backache. It's often accompanied by other symptoms like nausea, fever, or issues with peeing. If you're experiencing that, don't waste time self-diagnosing, just consult a doctor, especially if you have a busy schedule and can't afford to be unwell.

I've had both, and trust me, they feel very different. Kidney pain is usually higher up in your back, just below your ribs, and often wraps around to your side or even abdomen. It's also often a dull ache that can become sharp, and sometimes comes with fever or painful urination. Back pain is usually lower, more muscular, and gets worse with movement.

As someone into fitness, I know regular back pain can be from muscle strain or posture. But kidney pain is different. It's usually more intense, deeper, and often accompanied by other symptoms like blood in urine or fever. If you suspect kidney pain, exercise won't fix it; you need medical intervention. Don't ignore it, hydrate properly always.

Long time ago, I had this confusion too. My kidney pain felt like it was coming from inside, deep in my body, and it was constant, not like a muscle strain. Back pain generally feels like it's on the surface, near the spine. Also, if there are issues with urine, it's likely kidneys. Don't worry, just get it checked if you are unsure.

This distinction is really important, so please don't take it lightly. Kidney pain tends to be higher up, below the ribs, and can be sharp or colicky. It also often comes with symptoms like fever, vomiting, or changes in urination. Back pain is usually lower and muscular. Always, always see a doctor to correctly diagnose it, because kidney issues can be serious if not treated.
