How to take thyroid medication?

I was recently diagnosed with a thyroid condition and started on medication. My doctor just gave me the prescription, but I'm a bit confused about the best time to take it. Should it be before food, after, or at a specific time of day?

I was just diagnosed with hypothyroidism last week, and the doctor told me to take the tablet first thing in the morning. Do we have to wait a full hour before having our morning tea, or is 30 minutes enough? I am a bit confused about this routine.

You must take it on an empty stomach with a full glass of water, at least 30 to 60 minutes before breakfast. Also, never change your dosage or brand without consulting your doctor, and make sure to get your TSH levels checked every 3 to 6 months for safety.

I agree with the morning empty stomach rule. Also, make sure you don't take calcium or iron supplements within 4 hours of your thyroid pill.

My wife's mother suggested taking various herbal powders for thyroid, but we always trust our family doctor's prescription. She takes her levothyroxine tablet at 6 AM every single morning with plain water. It has kept her health stable and active for ten years now.

Managing PCOS often comes with thyroid issues, so I have to be very careful with my morning routine. I take my thyroid pill immediately when I wake up and keep my phone alarm set for 45 minutes before I touch any food or coffee. It really helps the medicine absorb properly.
