How to take acidity tablet?

I often suffer from acidity, especially after eating spicy food. My doctor prescribed some acidity tablets, but I sometimes forget the proper way to take them. Should I take an acidity tablet before or after meals, and with water?

Hey, don't stress too much about it! Usually, doctors tell you to take acidity tablets first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, about 30 minutes before breakfast. Just swallow it with some plain water and you are good to go.

My grandmother always suggests drinking warm water or eating a banana for mild burning. But for the tablet, my doctor told me it works best when taken before food. Always follow what your doctor has written on the prescription.

I take mine early in the morning, half-asleep, at least 30 minutes before my first cup of coffee. If I forget and take it after food, it barely does anything. Just keep it on your bedside table with a bottle of water.

Keep a strip of your prescribed antacids in your office bag so you don't miss the dose. If it is a PPI (like pantoprazole), remember to take it on an empty stomach in the morning. If it is an antacid gel or chewable tablet, you can take it after meals when you feel the burn.

Please check with your physician about the exact timing for your specific tablet. When I went to Aster Medcity, the doctor clearly explained that some tablets need to be swallowed whole before food, while others are chewable and taken after meals. Don't guess the dosage.

I used to take them randomly whenever my stomach burned, but my doctor told me that's wrong. Now I take my prescribed tablet first thing in the morning with a glass of water, and then wait 30 minutes before eating anything. It has made a huge difference.

Self-medicating with acidity tablets for a long time can mask more serious issues. It's safer to get a proper checkup done by a gastroenterologist to find the actual cause. If you must take one, consult a pharmacist first for the correct way to consume it.
