How to stretch sciatic pain?

I've been suffering from sciatica for months now, and the pain goes all the way down my leg. The doctor said specific stretches can help. Can anyone suggest how to effectively stretch to relieve sciatic pain?

I don't have time for long physiotherapy sessions, so I do the seated pigeon stretch right at my desk. You just cross one ankle over the opposite knee and lean forward slightly while keeping your back straight. It takes just two minutes and really helps release that sharp glute pain during long work hours.

For sciatica, you have to be extremely careful not to pinch the nerve further. You can try the piriformis stretch: lie on your back, cross the painful leg over the other knee, and gently pull. If the pain shoots down your leg while doing this, stop immediately and apply a warm compress instead.

Physical pain is often a sign that our body needs rest and gentle care. When practicing any stretches for sciatica, do it with a calm mind and deep, slow breaths. Don't fight the stiffness; just let your body relax into a gentle child's pose. God bless you with a speedy recovery.

Does anyone else get a sudden, electric-like shock down the back of the thigh when they try to stretch? It really scares me to bend forward even a little bit. Is it safe to do basic hamstring stretches during this, or will it make the nerve pain worse?

Sciatica can happen due to a herniated disc, so self-stretching without guidance can be quite risky. I went to a proper spine clinic where they showed me specific nerve-gliding exercises. Please consult a doctor or a qualified physical therapist before trying any stretches you see online.
