How to stop smoking without weight gain?

I'm really trying to quit smoking, but I'm worried about gaining weight. Many of my friends who quit put on a lot of kilos afterwards. How can I avoid this while giving up cigarettes?

Welcome to the community! When you quit smoking, your metabolism slows down slightly and your appetite increases. To avoid weight gain, try replacing the cigarette break habit with drinking a large glass of water or munching on low-calorie celery stick snacks instead.

Nicotine suppresses appetite, so when you stop, your natural taste buds recover and you crave more food. To balance this, focus on portion control and drink green tea to boost your metabolism. If you are using nicotine replacement therapy, discuss the step-down plan with your pharmacist.

I tried to quit cold turkey and ended up overeating so much that my cholesterol levels shot up drastically. I strongly recommend visiting a nutritionist or a doctor to get a structured diet plan while you go through the quitting phase to avoid health issues.

I quit smoking two years ago without gaining a single kilo. The secret is to start a regular gym or home workout routine on the exact same day you quit. It channels your nervous energy, keeps your metabolism high, and keeps your hands and mind busy.

With my PCOS, managing weight is already a massive struggle, so I understand the fear of gaining more. I had to focus on eating high-protein meals to stay full longer when I was cutting down. It's a slow process, so please be gentle with yourself.

Please don't let the fear of weight gain stop you from quitting smoking. I delayed quitting for years due to this fear, which eventually led to severe respiratory issues that I regret now. Go see a doctor, get checked up, and plan your quit journey safely.

Bhai, jab bidi ya cigarette chhodte hain toh thoda bhookh zyada lagti hai, yeh normal hai. Aap ghar pe bhuna hua chana aur thoda sa gud kha liya karo jab bhi man kare. Yeh sehat ke liye bhi accha hai aur isse pet bhi bhara rahega.

In my experience, the urge to smoke often turned into a sudden urge to eat sweets. I managed to stay at the same weight by chewing sugar-free mint chewing gums whenever a craving hit, which kept my mouth busy without adding extra calories.

According to my physician, smoking burns extra calories by keeping your heart rate slightly higher, so quitting naturally drops your daily burn. He suggested starting a routine of 30 minutes of moderate cardio exercise, like brisk walking, to offset this metabolic change and maintain my current weight.

My son had this exact worry when he decided to quit smoking last year. I helped him by keeping bowls of fresh salad and roasted makhana ready so he wouldn't reach for junk food during cravings. He quit successfully and didn't gain weight at all!
