How to stop scratching psoriasis?

My psoriasis patches are incredibly itchy, and sometimes I just can't help but scratch them, which makes them bleed. I want to stop, but it's so difficult. What can I do to control myself and stop scratching psoriasis?

I was recently diagnosed with plaque psoriasis and the urge to scratch is very intense, especially on my elbows. I am a bit embarrassed to ask, but does scratching actually cause more patches to form on the skin? Or is it just a myth?

My doctor told me that managing underlying metabolic and thyroid health can sometimes help reduce systemic inflammation in the body. I make sure to do my routine blood tests and keep my thyroid medication updated. Definitely consult your specialist for proper targeted ointments to stop the psoriasis itch.

It is so incredibly hard when people tell you 'just don't scratch,' because they don't know how deep and agonizing that itch feels. It can really get you down emotionally and make you want to isolate yourself. Please know your pain is real, and it is completely okay to seek professional help to manage this symptom.

I see people recommending heavy exfoliating scrubs and homemade herbal pastes for psoriasis, but these can actually trigger the Koebner phenomenon and spread the lesions. Psoriasis is an autoimmune condition, not just dry skin. You must verify every treatment with a certified dermatologist.

Yaar, scratching psoriasis patches is the worst thing you can do because it actually makes the plaques bleed and grow bigger. I just apply ice packs to numb the area when it gets too bad, and it works like a charm. Always keep your skin moisturized with a heavy cream, it really helps.

Applying warm virgin coconut oil can help soften the dry scales and reduce the immediate tightness and itching of the skin. However, for chronic psoriasis, these kitchen tips only provide mild temporary relief. If your patches are spreading or painful, please see a skin doctor for proper medical treatment.

Bro, I have had psoriasis on my knees for two years now. The absolute best trick to stop scratching is keeping your nails cut as short as possible so you can't scratch even if you try. Also, use the specific coal tar ointment your doctor prescribed, it stops the itch instantly.
