How to stop root canal pain?

I just had a root canal done and the pain is still quite intense even after a day. It's making it hard to eat or talk. How can I stop this root canal pain effectively?

I am so sorry you are going through this painful phase. Please try a warm saltwater rinse to soothe the area for now. I hope your pain subsides very soon.

I was researching about root canals because I might need one next month, and most dental sites say some soreness is normal for a few days. They suggest avoiding chewing from that side completely. Have you finished all your sessions or is this pain happening before the final cap is put?

I totally get it, dental pain is absolutely exhausting and it is so hard to focus on anything else. It feels like the entire side of your face is throbbing. Please rest up, take your prescribed medicines, and don't hesitate to call your dentist if you feel the pain is too much to handle.

Bro, I got an RCT done last month and the pain was crazy on day two. My dentist told me to take the prescribed painkiller on time and avoid touching the tooth with my tongue. Honestly, just sleep it off and give it 48 hours, it gets normal automatically.

Arre, root canal ke baad thoda dard toh hota hi hai, tension mat lo na. Doctor ne jo painkiller di hai vo time pe khalo, thik ho jayega. Garam paani mein namak daal ke rinse karte raho din mein do-teen baar, bahut aaram milega sach mein.

Over the years, I have seen many people face this issue post-procedure. Usually, the tooth tissue remains tender for a few days after cleaning. A cold compress on the cheek and eating soft foods really helps. If the pain is still unbearable after 3 days, please visit your doctor to adjust the bite height of the temporary filling.

When I had my root canal, I survived on cold dahi, khichdi, and ice cream for three days. Keeping pressure off that tooth is the easiest way to prevent pain from triggering. Don't drink hot tea or coffee right now as it can irritate the sensitive area.

Mild discomfort is expected after a root canal, but severe, throbbing pain could indicate a missed canal or an active infection. It is highly recommended to contact your endodontist instead of self-medicating. They can take an X-ray to see exactly what is causing the flare-up.

Apply a cold pack on the outside of your jaw for 15 minutes at a time to reduce inflammation. Make sure you are taking the anti-inflammatory medication exactly as your dentist scheduled, rather than waiting for the pain to peak. If there is swelling in the gums, reach out to your clinic immediately.

Try to keep your mind calm and take deep, slow breaths to manage the stress of this physical pain. The body has a beautiful way of healing itself when we rest peacefully. Take your doctor's medicine with a positive mind, eat light food, and take care of your health.

Look, root canal pain is no joke, but don't just tolerate it or keep putting clove oil. Call your dentist and tell them the pain is severe; they will prescribe a proper painkiller and antibiotic course if there is any leftover infection. Rest well and don't chew anything hard for now.

Please don't ignore the pain if it continues for more than a few days. I thought my post-RCT pain was normal and kept taking painkillers, but there was a hidden infection that spread, and I had to get the tooth extracted eventually. Get it checked by your dentist if the pain feels deep and continuous.
