How to stop a migraine before it starts?

I get really bad migraines, and sometimes I feel a dull ache or light sensitivity just before a full-blown attack starts. I desperately want to know how to stop a migraine before it completely takes over my day.

For me, the moment I feel that slight heaviness in my head, I immediately switch off the lights and sit in a quiet room. I also drink a big glass of water because dehydration is a major trigger. Small things like putting a cold damp cloth on my forehead really help in stopping it from turning into a full-blown attack.

I actually managed to control my frequent migraine attacks just last month. My doctor helped me identify my early warning signs, like sudden light sensitivity and yawning. Now, as soon as those start, I take my prescribed SOS medicine right away instead of waiting for the severe pain to hit, and it works beautifully.

My grandmother used to suggest drinking warm ginger tea or applying thin sandalwood paste to the temples when a headache begins. While these home remedies are very soothing for mild discomfort, for severe migraines, you must follow your doctor's advice. I always keep my prescribed tablets ready so I can take them the moment the aura starts.

At my age, my head feels like a pressure cooker if I skip my afternoon tea or look at my phone for too long! The best way to stop it is to just shut out the world, tell your family to make their own dinner, and sleep in a dark room. Honestly, avoiding the daily stress is the biggest migraine shield you can find.

I used to get severe headaches and thought it was just migraine, but during a routine checkup, we found my blood pressure was also very high. Keeping a check on your BP, sleeping on time, and avoiding too much salt can prevent these triggers. Please get a regular health checkup done to see what is actually causing these headaches.

Please be very careful about trying to self-manage these headaches. I kept popping random painkillers for months to stop my migraines before they started, which eventually led to severe stomach ulcers and medication overuse headaches. Do not experiment like I did; go to a neurologist and get a proper prevention plan.
