How to sleep with shoulder pain on both sides?

Both my shoulders are hurting, and it's been difficult to get a good night's sleep for weeks. No matter how I lie, one shoulder or the other starts to ache. What's the best way to sleep when both shoulders are painful?

When both my shoulders were aching, I had to sleep strictly on my back with pillows supporting both my elbows. Since I manage diabetes, I avoid late-night inflammatory foods that can worsen joint pain. Keeping my blood sugar stable really helps in reducing overall joint inflammation.

Please keep your mind calm and stay positive, as our bodies have a beautiful way of healing themselves. Try sleeping flat on your back with a small, soft cushion under each arm to keep both shoulders completely relaxed. Take care and sleep peacefully tonight.

When both shoulders hurt, you literally cannot turn left or right, you are just stuck like a mummy! I have to sleep completely flat on my back with pillows tucked under both armpits. It is not the most glamorous look, but it is the only way to get some sleep.

If your doctor allows, some light active stretching for the chest and back before sleeping can open up the shoulders. I find that sleeping on my back with a rolled-up towel under my knees and small cushions under both elbows keeps my posture neutral and relieves bilateral shoulder tension.

I have recently started having dull pain in both my shoulders, and sleeping on either side has become impossible. I try to sleep on my back, but my arms feel very heavy. Does using a travel neck pillow help in keeping the head and shoulders in a better position?

I get so anxious when both shoulders hurt, thinking it might be something serious with my spine or heart, and it completely ruins my sleep. What helps me calm down is setting up a recliner or stacking pillows so I sleep semi-upright. It feels much safer and really takes the weight off both joints.

Please be very careful when both sides hurt; I ignored bilateral shoulder pain and it turned out to be a severe cervical nerve pinch that needed intense therapy. Do not try to just manage this with pillow adjustments. Go see an orthopedic specialist immediately to get a proper diagnosis.

Since both shoulders are hurting, sleeping flat on your back is your best option, keeping small cushions under your arms. Because I have high BP, I always make sure to avoid sleeping positions that restrict breathing. Please do get this checked by a doctor to rule out any neck disc issues.
