How to sleep with rotator cuff injury?

I injured my shoulder doing some heavy lifting last month, and the doctor said it's a rotator cuff injury. Sleeping is a real struggle because of the pain. What's the best way to position myself to get some sleep?

I had a partial rotator cuff tear last year and sleeping was a puzzle. The best way is to sleep on your opposite side and hug a thick pillow close to your chest to rest your injured arm on it. Also, try wearing a tight t-shirt or a light sling to prevent your shoulder from shifting overnight.

Getting comfortable with a shoulder injury is tough but definitely doable! 🌟 I used to sleep in a reclined position on the sofa with lots of cushions supporting my elbow. Hugging a small pillow really helps to keep the shoulder joint stable so you can sleep peacefully! 👍

I completely understand how stressful this is; when I couldn't sleep due to my shoulder pain, I felt so anxious about it never healing. It gets better, I promise. Try sleeping slightly upright on a recliner or use a wedge pillow to take the gravity pressure off your shoulder joint so you can calm down and rest.

Let's be real, you cannot sleep on that shoulder for a while. Buy a solid wedge pillow and sleep at an angle on your back, keeping your elbow supported by a small cushion. It stops the shoulder from dropping back and pinching, which is what causes that sudden sharp pain.

Finding a comfortable sleeping posture is key, but you must follow your physiotherapist's specific guidelines since different rotator cuff tears require different care. Generally, avoiding sleeping on the affected side and using pillows to prevent rolling over is recommended. Do consult your doctor before trying any new support setups.

I am not a medical expert so I won't tell you what to do, but I can share what worked for me. When my shoulder was injured, sleeping flat on my back with a rolled-up towel placed directly under my shoulder blade helped reduce that deep, throbbing ache that usually started around midnight.
