How to sleep with rls?

My legs feel so restless at night, it's like an urge to move them constantly. This restless leg syndrome is making it impossible to fall asleep. Does anyone have any strategies that help?

I totally get it, that urge to move your legs the moment you lie down is so exhausting and frustrating. I found that taking a warm water bath right before bed and wearing snug, long compression socks helps calm down that creepy-crawly feeling in my calves. Sending you lots of strength!

My legs literally try to run a marathon on their own as soon as my head hits the pillow! What works for me is kicking them around for a minute, then doing some weird hamstring stretches on the bed. It looks ridiculous but it tires the legs out enough to let me sleep.

Restless legs often respond very well to gentle, calming stretches before bedtime. I highly recommend doing the Viparita Karani pose, which is simply resting your legs straight up against the wall for ten minutes before sleeping. It improves circulation and relaxes the leg muscles beautifully.

If your doctor allows, try adding a brisk 20-minute walk in the evening, but not too close to bedtime. I noticed my restless leg syndrome became much more manageable when I started doing consistent, light lower-body exercises. Just make sure not to overtrain, as that can sometimes trigger it too.

While things like warm baths and leg massages can give temporary relief, it is very important to get a proper blood test done. Often, restless legs are caused by low iron levels or vitamin deficiencies. Please consult a doctor to find the root cause rather than just trying to manage it at home.
