How to sleep with pneumonia?

I'm recovering from pneumonia and the coughing and chest discomfort make it so difficult to get proper rest. What sleeping positions can help me breathe easier and sleep more comfortably?

Haan na, breathing becomes so difficult with pneumonia. Try sleeping on your side with your head nicely elevated, it really helps to clear the chest. Don't lie flat on your back, it makes the congestion worse.

Please rest as much as you can. Propping yourself up with three soft pillows will make breathing much easier and help you sleep peacefully through the night.

To recover quickly and get back to work, sleep on your side and keep a humidifier running in your bedroom. The moist air loosens the mucus so you don't wake up coughing constantly.

I always inhale some steam with a drop of eucalyptus oil before sleeping when my chest is heavy. Also, sleeping slightly inclined on a wedge pillow keeps the airways clear and eases the cough.

Haan, lying flat is the worst thing you can do when your chest is jammed. Just use extra pillows to sit up a bit while sleeping, and keep warm water nearby to drink if you get a coughing fit, na.

When I had pneumonia last winter, I found it impossible to sleep on my back. I slept on my left side with a warm hot water bag held close to my chest, which gave me immense comfort and helped me drift off.

Please be very careful and monitor your oxygen levels with a spirometer at night. If you feel sudden shortness of breath or extreme chest pain while trying to sleep, don't wait for morning, go to the emergency room immediately.

Absolutely, sleeping on your side instead of your back is much safer and helps drainage. Keeping the head elevated is key.
