How to sleep with pinched nerve in lower back?

I have a pinched nerve in my lower back, and finding a comfortable sleeping position is a daily struggle. It just keeps me up all night. What sleeping positions can relieve pressure on a pinched nerve?

My back pain was worse because thyroid issues made my body prone to joint inflammation. Please get your regular thyroid panel done and consult your doctor; getting the right medical plan is key to sleeping pain-free.

Do not ignore this. I kept trying different sleeping positions for months until my leg went completely numb, and I ended up needing major physiotherapy. Go see a spine specialist before it gets worse.

Haan na, back pain makes sleeping so difficult. I just lie on my back and keep a thick pillow right under my knees, it gives so much relief to the lower back. Try it tonight, you will feel better.

I had a pinched nerve last year from sitting all day at work. What saved my sleep was sleeping on my side with a pillow tucked firmly between my knees, and using a thin rolled-up towel under my waist to support the curve.

I have dealt with lower back issues for twenty years now. Don't worry, just avoid sleeping on your stomach completely as it arches the back, and use a firm mattress instead of a very soft, sinking one.

Along with finding a good side-sleeping position, focus on core-strengthening exercises once the acute pain goes down. A strong core naturally takes the pressure off your lower back nerves.

I ignored my pinched nerve thinking it was just standard fatigue, and it became a chronic slip disc issue. Don't make my mistake; get a doctor to check it properly and do a proper scan if they suggest it.

If you have a busy work schedule, don't waste time experimenting. Get an ergonomic lumbar support cushion for your office chair during the day, and sleep on your side with a memory foam knee pillow at night to get instant quality rest.

Stop using soft pillows under your head that push your neck forward and mess up your entire spine alignment. Get a firm mattress, sleep on your side, keep your knees bent, and see a good physiotherapist. Simple as that.

Since I have diabetes, nerve recovery can be slow, so keeping my blood sugar strictly under control is key. For sleeping, I use a medium-firm orthopedic mattress which keeps my spine aligned and prevents morning stiffness.

Does the pain shoot down your leg when you lie flat on your back? I am so scared to sleep because every time I turn, I feel a sharp electric shock. Has anyone else experienced this?

At this point, I have made a fort of six pillows around me just to find one angle that doesn't hurt. Sleeping with a pinched nerve is like playing Tetris with your own body at 3 AM.
