How to sleep with kidney stones?

Even without the acute pain, just having kidney stones makes me feel constantly uneasy, and I can't sleep properly. Is there any particular sleeping position that might help, or something to make it more comfortable?

You should definitely consult your urologist about the best sleeping posture for your specific stone location. When I was admitted, they told me that sleeping on the affected side might actually help the stone move through gravity, but only your doctor can confirm if that's safe for you.

My mother insisted on drinking barley water before bed, but my doctor advised against too much fluid right before sleeping to avoid frequent bathroom trips. Sleeping on my left side with a soft cushion for support worked best for me during those days.

I tried everything from warm water to herbal teas, but honestly, the only thing that let me sleep was placing a heating pad on my back for twenty minutes before sleeping. It relaxes the muscles so you don't feel that constant dragging ache.

Just buy a decent hot water bottle from your local pharmacy. Keep it on your lower side for some time before sleeping, and sleep on your side. It is a cheap and effective way to get some decent rest.

Agree with others, keeping a pillow between your knees while sleeping on your side really helps reduce the strain on your lower back.

I was terrified when I first felt that ache and thought I would never sleep again. But don't worry, it is a very common issue and once you start your doctor's treatment, you can sleep easily on your back with a pillow under your knees.
