How to sleep with fluid in lungs?

My father has fluid in his lungs and finds it very difficult to breathe, especially when lying down at night. He keeps waking up feeling breathless. What sleeping positions or methods can help him sleep more comfortably?

Yaar, fluid in lungs is no joke, actually. You should not try to lie flat at all because it makes breathing very tough. Try propping up 3-4 pillows and sleep in an inclined position. But honestly, please make sure you are in touch with your doctor about this.

Does anyone else get extremely scared to sleep when this happens? I feel like the moment I lie down, my chest feels heavy and I panic. I try to sleep sitting up slightly but it is so hard to get actual deep rest. Is this normal or should I get checked again?

I know exactly how terrifying it feels when you can't breathe properly while trying to sleep. It honestly caused me so much anxiety and sleepless nights. Sleeping propped up on a recliner was the only way I could get some rest. Please stay strong and keep your doctor informed about any changes.

Listen, don't panic. First, stack some pillows so you are sleeping almost half-sitting; this will let you breathe much easier tonight. But tomorrow morning, promise me you will visit your doctor to get this properly checked. We need to take care of this immediately.

I am not an expert but I always try to be very careful with chest or breathing issues. Sleeping with your head and chest elevated is what most people suggest to ease the pressure. Just make sure you don't ignore it if you feel sudden breathlessness, please see a doctor.

I had to manage this while working a 9-to-6 job, and lack of sleep was ruining my productivity. The only practical solution was buying a wedge pillow to keep my head elevated safely. It is worth the investment, but make sure your medical treatment is ongoing.

With my high BP, I have to be very careful about fluid retention and heart health. If you have fluid in your lungs, sleeping upright is just a temporary fix. You need to get your heart and kidneys checked by a specialist to find the root cause, and keep checking your vitals.

Beta, at my age, I have seen that sleeping flat with lung congestion is impossible. We always used a high bolster pillow or slept on an easy chair to keep the chest upright. It gets better with the right treatment, so don't lose heart and take your medicines on time.

I completely understand how stressful this is, and it is totally normal to feel anxious when you can't breathe easily. When I went through this, keeping a couple of extra pillows behind my back helped relieve that suffocating feeling. Don't worry, just focus on keeping your head high and contact your physician if it gets worse.

Ugh, having to sleep sitting up means no comfortable post-dinner lounging. I had to cut down on heavy, salty dinners because it was making the fluid retention and breathing worse at night. Try to eat a very light, low-sodium meal early in the evening so your stomach isn't bloated when you try to rest.

When the lungs have congestion, lying down flat increases the pressure. I found that keeping the upper body elevated at a 45-degree angle helps immensely. Gentle, slow diaphragmatic breathing before sleeping can also calm your nervous system, but please do not strain yourself.

I totally get it, the feeling of not being able to take a deep breath is so exhausting. Sleeping on a few pillows to keep your chest raised is the only way to get some shut-eye. Just take it easy, don't push yourself, and let your doctor know how you are feeling.
