How to sleep with broken ribs?

My colleague broke a couple of his ribs in an accident, and he's in a lot of pain. He says sleeping is almost impossible. What's the best way for someone with broken ribs to sleep comfortably?

When I cracked a rib, I had to stop all my core workouts completely. For sleep, I found that reclining slightly on a pile of firm pillows was the only way to avoid chest pain, as lying flat was impossible.

Does anyone else get terrified of coughing or sneezing while trying to fall asleep with a rib injury? It is so painful and scary. How do you guys manage to lie down without feeling like your chest is collapsing?

When I injured my ribs in a fall, sleeping on my back with a couple of pillows propped under my head and another under my knees was the only way I could get any rest. I had to strictly avoid side sleeping.

I know exactly how scary it feels to breathe deeply at night when your ribs are broken; the anxiety makes the chest tightness feel even worse. Try sleeping in a semi-upright reclined position, it really helps ease that panic.

Haan na, broken ribs pain is just terrible, you can't even turn around in bed. I had to sleep on a comfortable armchair in the living room for two weeks because bed was too painful, ho na.
