How to sleep with braids?

I just got braids done for a wedding, and they look great, but sleeping in them is tough! I don't want to mess them up or make them frizzy. Any tips on how to sleep without ruining my new hairstyle?

Honestly, I barely sleep anyway, and having heavy braids makes me feel like I am sleeping on a pile of ropes. The only way I survive is by putting them all over the top of the pillow so they don't poke my neck.

While there is no medical emergency here, dermatologists often recommend wearing a silk bonnet or using a satin pillowcase. This prevents hair breakage and stops the braids from tugging on your scalp, which can cause tension headaches.

I panicked the first night I got braids because my scalp was so tight I thought my hair would fall out! But it is completely normal for the first couple of days. Just use a soft satin pillow and you will sleep perfectly fine soon.

I just got tight braids done for the first time and my scalp feels quite sore. Is it normal to feel this pull at night, and should I tie them up or let them hang loose while sleeping?

I totally get it, sleeping with fresh braids can be super uncomfortable and itchy. Try wrapping them loosely in a silk scarf to keep them in place and reduce the friction against your pillow.
