How to sleep with a torn rotator cuff?

I had a shoulder injury and the doctor said it's a torn rotator cuff. The pain is constant, especially at night. How do people manage to sleep comfortably with a torn rotator cuff?

You must sleep on your back or on the opposite, uninjured side to avoid putting any weight on the torn shoulder. I also make sure to avoid heavy, inflammatory foods at night to help with healing. Placing a small pillow under your injured arm for support works wonders.

When I was treated for my shoulder tear, my orthopedic doctor strictly told me to sleep in a semi-reclined position or on my back with a pillow tucked under the elbow of the sore arm. Please consult your physiotherapist before trying any stretching exercises in bed.

Do not even think about sleeping on the side that hurts, or you will wake up in severe pain. Sleep on your back and put a nice thick pillow under your arm to keep the shoulder joint stable. It is simple but it will protect your shoulder from moving.

Yes, keeping a pillow tucked under the elbow of the affected arm while sleeping on your back is the only way to get some pain-free sleep.

Rotator cuff injuries need maximum rest to recover properly. Tonight, try sleeping in a reclined position using a few pillows, as it reduces the gravity pull on your shoulder joint. Keep up with your high-protein diet to support tissue repair while you rest.

Sleeping on a recliner chair is actually super cozy and helps keep the pressure off your shoulder! 🛋️ Prop yourself up with lots of fluffy pillows and have a peaceful night's rest.
