How to sleep with a bad cough?

I've caught a really bad cold, and this cough just won't let me sleep. Every time I lie down, it gets worse. How can I manage to get some rest when I have such a bad cough?

A bad cough needs proper attention, especially if it's keeping you from sleeping. Don't just rely on random internet remedies. Consult a doctor to get an accurate diagnosis and appropriate medication. A severe cough could be a sign of something more serious that needs professional treatment.

For my kids when they have a cough, I elevate their head significantly with extra pillows. A humidifier in the room helps keep the air moist, which reduces irritation. And a warm drink like haldi doodh (turmeric milk) before bed also works wonders to soothe the throat and help them sleep better.

With a bad cough, I avoid anything that could irritate my throat more, like fried or very spicy food for dinner. Warm water with honey and a bit of ginger is my go-to. It soothes the throat and helps suppress the cough a little. Also, no cold drinks before bed.

I literally just got over a terrible cough that kept me up for nights! The best thing that worked was having a hot water bath and then sleeping propped up with three pillows. And I kept a thermos of warm water with honey and lemon next to my bed to sip on whenever a coughing fit started. It actually made a difference.

Coughing at night is so disruptive, I get it. Try to sleep on your side or propped up to prevent mucus from pooling and triggering more coughs. A warm salt water gargle before bed can soothe your throat. Just focus on making yourself as comfortable as possible to get some much-needed rest.
