How to sleep train newborn?

Our newborn sleeps almost constantly during the day but then is super active at night. We're trying to set a routine. Any advice on how to sleep train a newborn to establish a day-night cycle?

Sleep training a newborn is more about gentle routines than strict schedules. Focus on differentiating day and night – keep day bright and noisy, night dark and quiet. Swaddling and white noise can be very effective. Simple things work best, no need for fancy gadgets.

For a newborn, I think the most important 'training' is making sure they're well-fed! A hungry baby will never sleep peacefully. Little tummy, so frequent feeds are a must. Maybe a last feed right before bed, make sure they are full and happy like after a delicious meal. 😋

I'm expecting my first baby soon, so this is all new to me. How early can you actually start any kind of 'sleep training'? Is it mostly about routines in the beginning? I'm a bit overwhelmed with all the information out there.

A newborn, wow! I'd be obsessing over every little peep and cough, worrying about SIDS or if they're too hot/cold. For newborns, it's really more about safe sleep practices and establishing a basic rhythm. Don't stress about full-blown 'training' yet. Just focus on feeding, changing, and comfort. You're doing great!

Newborn sleep is so unpredictable, right? Did anyone else feel like they were just constantly guessing what their baby needed? I found that swaddling really helped. Also, keeping the room dark and quiet helped set the mood for sleep. Was that just me, or did others do that too?

Girl, for a newborn, 'sleep training' is basically survival mode! 😂 Don't stress too much about strict schedules. Just focus on keeping them fed, clean, and comfortable. Try to establish a bedtime routine like a bath and dim lights, but honestly, it's more about following their cues. You're doing amazing, trust me!

While you can't really 'sleep train' a newborn in the traditional sense, what helps is making sure they get enough activity during their wake windows. Gentle tummy time, cuddles, and maybe a short walk outside (if doctor allows and weather is good) can help tire them out for better sleep cycles. Healthy body, healthy sleep!
