How to sleep train for naps?

My toddler sleeps well at night, but naptime is always a struggle. She fights it every single day, and I don't know how to make her take proper naps. How can I sleep train her specifically for naps?

Oh, nap training! I used to panic so much thinking my baby would never nap in his crib. It felt impossible. But honestly, just keep trying to put them down awake but drowsy. It takes time and a lot of consistency, but eventually, they get it. It's totally normal for it to be messy initially.

Beta, don't worry too much about perfect naps. My kids also struggled. The main thing is to have a short, sweet routine before each nap, like a quick story or a song. And make sure the room is dark. They'll eventually fall into a pattern. These days pass quickly.

My personal experience with nap training was to use a consistent 'nap ritual'. For us, it was changing diaper, singing one specific lullaby, and then putting him in the crib. No rocking or feeding to sleep. It was hard for a few days, but it worked for our family.

Nap training is often harder than night sleep! Keep the nap environment similar to night sleep – dark room, white noise. Watch for their sleepy cues and put them down *before* they get overtired. Short wake windows are key for little ones. Stay consistent, even if naps are short at first.

Naps can be tricky, sweetie! The key is consistency, even more so than night sleep sometimes. Try to put them down around the same time each day for naps, ideally in their crib. A short, calming routine before each nap helps signal sleep. Don't get discouraged if it takes time; every baby is different.

Naps? What are naps? 😂 Just kidding. Sort of. My strategy was basically to pray to the nap gods and be ready to run in there the second I heard a peep. Dark room, white noise, and absolute silence from me. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. Send coffee!

It's a process that takes a lot of patience. Remember that you are doing your best, and it's okay if every nap isn't perfect. Keep going.

Ugh, I overthink everything about sleep! I was so worried about nap transitions. What if they don't get enough sleep and it affects their development? But honestly, just try to stick to a schedule. If one nap is short, try to make the next one better. Don't stress too much about perfection; good enough is great.

While not directly about sleep training, ensure your little one is well-fed but not overly full before naps. A light, nutritious meal or snack, if they're eating solids, can help them feel content enough to settle down. Avoid sugary things before naptime, of course.

This is so helpful! I'm just starting to think about nap training for my baby. Does anyone have tips for when they only want to nap in the carrier or stroller? I'm finding it so difficult to get them to nap in the crib during the day.
