How to sleep on your side without hurting your shoulder?

I'm a side sleeper, but lately, my shoulder has been hurting a lot when I wake up. It's becoming really disruptive. How can I sleep on my side without hurting my shoulder?

For me, ensuring my diet is good and I'm not eating anything too heavy close to bedtime really helps with overall comfort. Sometimes inflammation can make things worse. Try to keep dinner light, maybe some dal and roti, and see if it helps reduce any discomfort.

Hey! I use a sleep tracker and noticed my shoulder pain was worse when I didn't use a supportive pillow. Maybe try a memory foam pillow designed for side sleepers? There are some apps that can even tell you how much you toss and turn, could give clues.

Aww, shoulder pain is the worst! Honestly, don't stress too much about it. Just try putting a pillow between your knees and hug another one. It aligns your spine better and takes pressure off your shoulder. Hope you feel better soon, yaar!

Simple solution for this, just put a small pillow under your sleeping arm, near the armpit. This gives your shoulder a bit of lift and takes the direct pressure off. Also, make sure your mattress isn't too old and saggy, that also contributes.

Oh, I have this problem too sometimes. It's so annoying to wake up with a sore shoulder. Does anyone know if the type of mattress also makes a big difference? Or is it mostly about the pillow?

Beti, these small pains come and go as we get older. For the shoulder, make sure your head pillow is not too thin, otherwise, your neck bends down too much. I used to just fold a small towel and put it under my pillow for extra support. Simple things can help a lot.

Be careful with random advice online for pain. Shoulder pain could be anything from a bad pillow to something more serious like rotator cuff issues. If it's persistent, seriously, go see a physiotherapist or an orthopaedic doctor. Don't self-diagnose based on forums.

Welcome to the club of side sleepers with shoulder woes! What worked for me is sleeping a bit more on my back, but tilted, with a body pillow. If you're strictly side-sleeping, a good quality medium-firm pillow for your head that keeps your neck neutral is key. Don't forget gentle shoulder stretches before bed.
