How to see cavities on x ray?

I had a dental X-ray recently, and the dentist mentioned I had a few cavities. I was curious, how exactly do they see cavities on an X-ray image?

I always say that keeping your diet clean of processed sugars prevents these issues in the first place. But if you already have pain, let a dentist check those X-rays while you keep up with your active lifestyle.

I ignored a tiny shadow on my dental X-ray once and ended up needing a painful, expensive root canal treatment. Don't try to guess it yourself; let the dentist take a look before it reaches the nerve.

Cavities show up as dark spots or shadows because the decayed tooth structure is less dense than healthy enamel. Make sure to rinse your mouth after every meal to keep plaque away.

When my dentist showed me my X-ray, the cavity looked like a tiny dark hole inside the bright white tooth outline. It was much deeper than what I could see in the mirror.

On dental X-rays, healthy teeth look very bright white, and any decay or cavity appears as a dark, shadowy area. Just show it to your family dentist, they will guide you beautifully on whether it needs a simple filling.
