How to run with asthma?

I have asthma, and while I want to be active, I'm often worried about triggering an attack while exercising. My doctor said I can still run with proper precautions. What are the best tips and methods on how to run with asthma safely and effectively?

Hey, don't stress too much about it! You can totally run, just make sure you carry your inhaler in your pocket always. Start with a very slow walk-jog routine and always warm up properly so your lungs don't get a sudden shock.

I totally get it, that fear of having an asthma attack while running can be so terrifying. I find that running on warm, humid days is much easier than running in cold, dry air. Just listen to your lungs and don't feel guilty about taking breaks.

Never start a running routine without getting your asthma action plan cleared by your pulmonologist. They might advise taking a puff of your bronchodilator 15 minutes before running. Don't rely on random breathing tricks you see online.

Doing deep breathing pranayama daily helps strengthen the lungs. However, if you feel tight-chested or start wheezing while running, stop immediately, use your inhaler, and see your doctor if the breathlessness doesn't settle.

Along with managing asthma, keeping your overall cardiovascular health in check is very important. I have high BP, so I monitor my heart rate closely when I jog. Make sure you get regular checkups to ensure you are exercising safely.

Always keep your reliever inhaler with you and focus on breathing through your nose to warm up the air.
