How to rock a newborn to sleep?

My newborn is very restless at night and struggles to sleep without constant attention. I've tried many things but nothing seems to work consistently. How can I effectively rock my newborn to sleep so both of us can get some rest?

Totally agree with gentle swaying. I find that holding them tight chest-to-chest while humming a soft, rhythmic tune works best for my little one.

Don't follow random sleep training videos online that ask you to let the baby cry it out or rock them aggressively. Always ask your pediatrician about safe sleeping positions and what is normal for a newborn's sleep cycle.

I have to help my sister with her baby sometimes and honestly, playing a soft fan sound or shushing loudly in their ear while gently swaying works surprisingly fast. It is tiring but quite cool when they finally doze off.

A gentle, slow side-to-side sway while walking around works like magic! Just mimic the movement they felt when they were inside the womb. You got this, parents!

I tried everything from swinging cribs to car rides. Honestly, what worked best was holding the baby close, white noise in the background, and a very slow vertical bouncing motion while holding them. It takes patience, but they will settle down.

Sleepless nights with a baby can really spike your blood pressure, as I learned the hard way. Take turns with your partner to rock the baby so you can get enough rest. Keeping yourself stress-free is very important for your own health.

Make sure you support their neck and head fully with your arm while rocking. Keep the movements slow and rhythmic, not jerking. Swaddling them securely before rocking also helps keep them calm and prevents their startle reflex from waking them up.

Newborns can feel our energy, so try to keep your mind calm and peaceful while holding them. A quiet environment and soft chanting or humming will bring peace to both you and the child. Blessings to your little one.
